Being able to support someone to overcome the things in their life that lead them to using behaviours that pose risks to themselves and others, finding other less risky ways to get what they want, is both an artform and a gift. Not everyone can put themselves in another person's shoes and see the world through their eyes. Working with the individual and turning this insight into a plan that advocates for how they want and need to be supported is the final challenge. Done right, positive behaviour support is life transforming - it can change a person's world for the better, building strong positive relationships, opening doors, and removing barriers to a better life. To do all of this is to be a great Behaviour Support Practitioner.

Kamal (Allevia's Health Support Practitioner) saw a need and set out to learn how to use his natural talents in the behaviour support area, enrolling in a University course, and applying to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission for registration as a Behaviour Support Practitioner. The result of all those hours of personal commitment paid off when he received a letter from the Commission confirming his successful registration on 27 September 2021.

Congratulations, Kamal, and welcome to the privileged ranks of Behaviour Support Practitioners. Many claim it but not all succeed, but we all know you are going to have a very positive impact on many people's lives. You are now on a journey which is going to be mixed with both tears and joy, and we wish you much more of the latter.
