Who do we support? First and foremost we support people who have an intellectual disability – people who have to overcome personal and societal barriers to being able to participate in community life in the manner of their choosing. Many of the people we support have a dual disability - along with their intellectual disability they also have a physical disability, and/or mental illness. Allevia provides supports which are paid for by the individual and they get their funds from the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). Therefore, we work with people who have an approved NDIS Plan and those who want to get an approved Plan. Our clients include those people who form a circle of support around a person with an intellectual disability, primarily their parents and siblings - people we support in their role as primary care givers. We support people with an intellectual disability from all genders, sexual preferences, and cultural backgrounds, but our support services are designed more for people from the ages of 12 years and beyond.
