Volunteer

Driver

Driving and transport: supporting people with a disability to get around in their community.

Expand

We are looking for volunteers who are very confident drivers and who want to be an Uber-like driver without all the hassles! The role includes driving people with a disability to appointments, activities and places they want to go - going to medical appointments, going out to a show, going to do the grocery shopping, visiting family, and many other reasons. Being the driver means the Support Workers can focus on the people they are supporting.

The role is based in the Bankstown LGA.

Our clients need drivers 7 days a week mostly between 8am and 8pm. Driving appointments are negotiated with the volunteer drivers on a needs and availability basis.

The vehicles vary but are typically medium people movers like the Kia Carnival. There is one 11-seater mini-bus.

You must have your own vehicle and a current full drivers licence.

Additional requirements

  • Unrestricted Driver's Licence (C)

Social Supporter

Supporting people with people with a disability to have fun in their community.

Expand

As a Social Supporter you will be assisting people with a disability as they have fun in their community.

You will be helping out our support workers and will receive supervision and training.

Initially, all Social Supporters start with the Teen Life program activities  which start from our Bankstown headquarters and are accessed either by our vehicles or by public transport. They generally start at 9:30am and finish in the afternoon at 3:00pm.

There are also further opportunities to get involved - support young people to go on set activities and as you become more confident and experienced talk to the Team Leader about supporting someone 1:1 or in a small group to go out and do something special (for example take in a rugby league game, go to a movie, attend a swim class).

The role also opens up opportunities for the creative people who want to start a new activity and invite people with a disability to join in. Really the sky is the limit.
